"I have a passion for defending people’s rights, engaging directly with people, and solving legal problems in a practical way."

Clarity, insight, communication

I am admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand.  I hold a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts (major in Philosophy) from the University of Auckland.

I began my career in Auckland as a solicitor at Wilson Harle, a highly regarded boutique civil litigation firm.  I developed my skills as a criminal defence lawyer while working at the Public Defence Service and then for a senior criminal barrister, Philip Hamlin.  I am now an independent barrister.

I have achieved excellent results for a broad range of clients across the Auckland region.  I specialise in parole hearings, and have extensive criminal defence experience, including trials, sentencings, bail hearings and appeals.

I have a particular interest in mental health and addiction issues affecting people within the criminal system. I have conducted numerous hearings about fitness to stand trial and have been involved in the specialist Alcohol and Other Drug Treatment Court.

I accept both private and legal aid instructions.

I have a personal dedication to improving access to justice, alternatives to imprisonment, and meaningful reintegration and support for people released from prison.
